John has been in the Hair Industry for 30 years. His career blossomed in 1983 when he traveled to New York City to the Jacob Javits Convention Center New York Hair Show. It was there that he discovered Aveda and met its founder, Horst Rechelbacher. In 1984 John became Aveda’s first East Coast Educator traveling in 5 states- VA, PA, WA, VA, NC, Delaware and D.C.- for over 17 years.

As John traveled he also continued to work at Mak’s Place. After several years he decided to refocus his energies and open his very own Salon in Milton, Delaware. John currently works 3 days a month at Mak’s Place of Alexandria VA.

Over the years a friendship bond developed. Mak and John spend much time discussing ideas, learning new things, sharing time and energy with their salon events, staying in touch with each other and the hair industry!!

Now a bit about his work: In his cutting, he tends to look at growth patterns and set the execution of his cut up like a flow of dominos. His color work preference is a natural look. He uses his intuition to place foils where and at what thickness. John selects hair colors by complexion and eye color, including the dept of the natural eye color. He loves working with color, texture and prefers to do his own combined cutting, coloring, styling, and textureizing.
